Trying to figure out my whitewater mojo

It seems like it has been raining non stop for the past month or so and this lead to some great local high water paddles and now that the rains have let up a little the Army Corp of Engineers decided it was time to release from the Dam.

The wave at the Dam is a little intimidating at higher flows. Since mortals are unable to attain to the wave at these flows, the most conveniant way to reach the wave is to seal launch from a rock directly into the “little” hole at the top of the rapid, ferry across, then drop right into the big one.

The wave really surges…

I have yet to really figure out the wave at this level. Maybe someday I will lay down the law and really be able to play on it.

We should have a little more time at this one so come out and hear the story. GOPC is a great gear store if you need anything to… They definitely helped us with our gear!

It feels like Maine is following us…

We have been snowed in for two days now and are going a little crazy! Well I say snowed in, we probably got about 5 inches of snow… Not snowed in by Maine standards but snowed in by our southern Standards. Just in case you did not know we kayaked into Portland Maine and decided to live there last winter and this weekend is definitely giving us flashbacks!

Help Raleigh NC get a whitewater park

For YEARS now the city of Raleigh has been mulling over the idea of putting a whitewater park right below falls dam on the Neuse River. Currently there is a good wave (as soon below) and a few small rapids below the bridge. So a few years ago a bond passes and allocates 350,000 dollars towards the project. One study was done but nothing was determined. Another study is in the works: Please sign this to help us get a park…

When the going gets cold… Head to the pool

So the Raleigh Parks and Recreation Adventure Program (who Bethany and I conveniently work for) has a pool session every Friday night at a local pool.

Its a great place to work on flatwater moves as well as rolling. My little brother Stephen and I paddled around a took a few photos last friday.
